With the state of crypto and NFTs, the 'this is fine' meme has been living in our minds rent-free.
Yep, it’s rough right now, and the 1 ETH = 1 ETH jokes just don't land quite the same in a bear market. But hey, there are still a few slivers of hope! NFT trademarks are up in the United States, and *plot twist* Romania is starting to seriously consider implementing NFTs on a national scale.
Oh, and... Bill? Could you be a little more optimistic, please?

Bill Gates mocks NFTs. Despite what most memes try to make you believe, Bill didn't get the internet wrong. His famous 1995 'Internet Tidal Web' memo was widely mocked at the time for being years too late but he made predictions that were seen as a little far-fetched and have since come true in a big way. But this time, he might actually be missing how NFTs go beyond just 'ape JPEGs.'
NFT trademark applications on the rise. NFT-related trademarks in the United States surpassed 4,000 from January 1 to May 31, 2022. Which means that, on average, 27 new NFT trademarks were filed per day.
Exchanges need insider trader policies. With cases of NFT insider trading on the rise, the SEC has reportedly launched a probe to discover what crypto exchanges are doing to crack down on these metaverse Martha Stewarts. Shady characters and crypto crooks will have to start watching their backs.
Someone just lost over $1 million after buying a CrypToad for 300 ETH eight months ago and selling it for 6.9 ETH a few days ago. Of course, it’s not out of the question for the user to have sold the NFT to himself for such a high price back then in a process that’s known as wash-trading.

NFTs aren't just JPEGs
Despite all the sad !vibes circulating the space, plenty of industries are still innovating on how to use NFTs. One case is the country of Romania laying the groundwork for using this technology to reduce bureaucracy by making citizen documents the equivalent of NFTs.
A bit further west on the European map, France is fed up with ticketing scams after the UEFA Champions League final saw mass ticket counterfeiting that led to a whole lot of cranky soccer fans. French authorities are turning to the power of NFTs and the blockchain to ensure ticket authenticity for future events.
What about the fashion industry? They rarely miss a trend and undoubtably got in on the NFT frenzy. We've seen everything from apparel that customers can wear in the metaverse to exclusive content and virtual flagship stores. For instance, Gucci launched a limited edition of digital accessories for Roblox.
