Maui Strong

Deeply moved by the Maui wildfire devastation, the artist's recent Hawaiian vacation turned into a mission of healing and solidarity. Having witnessed the heartbreaking impact on the community, heritage, and environment firsthand, the artist returned home and channeled their emotions into an exquisite artwork, a testament to the power of art therapy. The piece, serves a noble cause: raising funds for Maui wildfire relief efforts. Inspired by the infectious aloha spirit and embraced as 'ohana' by their Hawaiian friends, Anne Zanne Silver has become a better person through the immersive Hawaiian culture. Their dedication to preserving and rebuilding the land stands as a tribute to the remarkable island and its people.

In response to the devastating wildfires on Maui, the Hawaii Community Foundation has activated the Maui Strong Fund to provide flexible resources to support Maui residents. Funding will immediately address evolving needs, including shelter, food, financial assistance and other services as they are identified by on-the-ground partners doing critical work on Maui. 50 percent of the sales from this art drop will be donated to the Hawaii Community Foundation.

The initial image was created by Dall-e 2, a text-to-image model developed by OpenAI using deep learning methodologies to generate digital images from natural language descriptions, called "prompts". The image was then turned into a video and animated in the app Videoleap before being run through numerous video filters in Facetune to create additional color ways. The color ways were then stitched together in Videoleap where additional animations and audio were added. The multitude of color transitions represent the passing of time from day to night over multiple days, and changing emotions as one experiences the tragedy. Audio audio was added to the piece at the end using Videoleap and the sound of wind, music, flames, and waves can be heard. The sound waves were used, inspired by a family story of how they had to run into the ocean to escape the flames of the wild fire and some tread water for up to six hours until they were rescued. The flame in the background is eventually put out at the end of the video signaling that everything will be okay, and her hibiscus flower never leaves her hair signifying that the Aloha spirit will persevere with its rhythmic heart beat.
